Vegas - day 2

A lazy day today.  We were downstairs by about 8 am on the hunt for coffee and a light breakfast.  I could really get used to the convenience of one-stop shopping that we have going on here in the hotel.  Makes me rethink the idea of a house in favor of a full-service condominium complex with heated underground parking and an on-site gym.  Fully caffeinated, we ran a couple of errands (back to Target for a few things we forgot yesterday, and to scout out parking at the Rio), and then came back to the hotel to lounge by the pool.  After I finished the book I was reading, I used the time to play with my AnalogFilm app...

The view of the hotel from my poolside lounge chair.

My cool cat hanging by the pool.
By 12:30 we were hungry and thinking about lunch.  We wanted to try one of the infamous Vegas buffets.  Wow, there are a lot of them and they range in price from about $8, all the way up to $100 for a seafood & champagne brunch.  A little research on Trip Advisor informed us that the best "budget" buffet could be found at the Gold Coast, which is just down the road from The Orleans.   We love Trip Advisor and find that their recommendations almost never steer us wrong.  Almost.  If the buffet at the Gold Coast is the best budget buffet in town, you should plan to skip any of the budget buffets.  Not that it was inedible.  It just wasn't very good, or particularly inspired.  Think Old Country Buffet or standard cruise ship fare.  Cheap, but disappointing.  Andrew, who thoroughly enjoys both of the previously mentioned establishments, commented "I guess you get what you pay for."  Oh well, lesson learned and all the more reason to hit the pricey Bucchanal Buffet at Caesar's Palace when we're back next week!

This evening, we had tickets to Penn & Teller's show at the Rio - magic combined with comedy.  Very well done & we would recommend it when you're next in town.  Now it's time for bed - tomorrow we start our road trip to the Grand Canyon.  See you then!

  1. We have never had such a relaxing time in Vegas, good for you. I can honestly say I have never even sat at the pool either.
