The apartment

One of my favorite parts of travel is finding amazing apartments to stay in.  We typically use VRBO, but we found this gem on AirBNB, which seems to be taking over the business.  The apartment is in Old San Juan, about a 1/4 mile from the cruise port.  Last night we could hear the cruise ship horns blowing as they left port.

The apartment is in a Colonial style building from the 19th century with high ceilings and thick walls to help beat the heat.  The layout of the building reminds me of the apartment we had in Venice - an unimpressive door on the street that opens in to a common entrance.  There is an ground floor apartment just to the left in the picture below.  Upstairs there are four units total.   The apartment is beautiful and, compared to some of the recent Central America houses we've rented, luxurious!  There's air conditioning in the bedroom and the electricity has yet to go out!  Heaven.

Street view outside of the apartment - pretty typical Old San Juan street

The living room.  The furniture is very comfy!   The louvered doors shown lead in to the bedroom.

Bedroom - and there's air conditioning in this room.  What a treat!

View out of the kitchen window.  Would you ever get tired of that?

Looking out the entrance to the covered balcony.  I can't wait to have a glass of wine out here tonight!

  1. Karin, you guys are not the first Sabey's to visit that Castillo. Barb and I were there on one of our first cruises. I can't remember the year. You did a much better job, however, as we didn't do as much exploring
or take as many pictures. Keep up the good work. It brings back old memories.
